What is a CTTO? In this humble recruiter’s opinion, a chief technology transformation officer is a CIO who possesses the IQ, EQ, and my new favorite, RQ (relational quotient), to drive the AI conversation at every level – and to reskill an entire workforce.

CEOs need these mighty change makers, and so do boards, but most still rely on a familiar roster of retired P&L leaders, which will not work in our strange new AI world. Boards and CEOs cannot perform their rapidly changing governance responsibilities without the guidance of a CTTO.
Today’s CIO appointment rounds-up includes Albertsons’ appointment of Brian Rice, CIO of McDonald’s, to its board.  Rice has been developing transformation skills throughout his career, as I noted in an article “The CMO and CIO Relationship at Kellogg,” back in 2014, when Rice was CIO, making him a high-impact CTTO.

Congrats to Rice, Albertsons, and to all the CIOs in this week’s new CIO Report.

Aboard NASA’s April 1 launch of Artemis II – the first spacecraft with humans aboard to orbit the Moon since 1972 – is a set of USB-sized, temperature-controlled containers housing lab-grown tissue samples “designed to mimic parts of the crew’s bodies, particularly bone marrow, a key component of the immune system,” Mashable reported. The results will be personal to each astronaut. “After the mission, scientists will analyze how gene activity changed within individual cells, comparing flight samples with copies on Earth,” the website noted.
